Sand lightly with sand paper. Please go finer than 120, 400 would be best,... and light.

And use a light coat of some type of die-electric / anti-oxidizer grease when ya' finish up.

600 I would prefer, just in case

I once used sand paper and messed up everything but I was not gentle enough A friend of mine does this every time with perfect results and think that it is time I have another try, this time - softer

A lighter sandpaper will do the trick, don't overdo the work or else you will mess up the whole setup.
