It is generally accepted that 36mg/ml is the highest strength that should be vaped straight. That is to say the strength would be 3.6% nicotine to base liquid. There are various retailers that will sell you liquid in strengths up to 100mg/ml (10% nic) and this is exclusively for mixing purposes. This mixing liquid would be diluted down to a strength of <=36mg/ml with either USP grade propylene glycol or glycerine, or a mixture of the two. Vodka or pure grain alcohol can also be added for consistency and throat hit.
It is safe to vape absolutely all the strengths until the medium range. After that the density of nicotine becomes way too much and I can even call it poisonous.

I also think that e-liquids which provide a lot of throat hit amounts are not harmful for us, especially those in which nicotine is substituted by PG! Actually, what harms us can`t be felt, this is the worst thing in nicotine and all of the stuff which contains it and this is why we have to be very very careful![]()
If you are a heavy smoker you can start with the 12mg or 18mg and if you are a light smoker than start with 3mg or 6mg, for a non smoker it is good to start with 0mg of nicotine strength. This depends entirely on what you're using to vape it.
Bascially, if you're using a small cig-a-like style (it's basically smallish and tries to look like a conventional cigarette to some degree) you will need to use the higher nic levels (greater than 3 mg nicotine). If you're using a proper vaporizer, then I'd suggest you never go above a 3mg, you can do it, but it's really harsh.
The difference is in the amount of vapor you get, using the small pen style (like and ego pen or my jet) you just don't get that much vapor in, so if you're trying to come off of cigarettes you'll need a much higher nicotine concentration. If you're using a mod or box style personal vaporizer, then you're getting much, much more vapor, so you need to have a much lower nicotine concentration.
I hope that helps, go in and talk to your local shop, they'll stear you right!
